Destin family photographer | How to dress for family portraits
It‘s always a little intimidating to have your picture taken .
I realize that preparing for your session can be a little overwhelming. Here are some tips for outfits and accessories that will make the portrait session preparation a little more manageable!
If you have younger kids– talk to them to prepare them a little on what to expect.
Try to relax.
You don‘t have to be a pro! I‘m going to help you along the way and it’s going to be just fabulous.
Be on time.
The sun is only out for so long.
The later you arrive, the less time we have to shoot and no one wants to feel rushed.
Bring along a few snacks for after the session.
Who gets grumpy when they’re hungry?
Me. Kids. Everyone basically.
Snacks are always a great idea.
Please don‘t use bribery before/during the session.
In my experience, a trip to get ice cream after the portrait session is usually the best idea!
Coordinate outfits, but don‘t make them matching.
Pick two to three colors that are flattering for everyone, and work those colors into each outfit.
Layers + textures.
Layers and textures are your best friend when it comes to portraits.
It adds depth to your outfit and can really make your portraits pop.
A cardigan over a simple cami makes it so much more interesting in a portrait.
A long tulle skirt or flowy dress are my favorites for the mommas to wear.
Avoid bright colors and clothing with logos.
It will distract from the family, and that isn’t good in a family portrait.
Last but not least, lay it on out.
If you think you have the outfits, lay them out and see how you like them altogether.
I always do this and it has not failed me once!
Enjoy your family portrait outfit shopping!
